 All resources, room and study spaces please try and booked a minimum 24 hours before you need them.

Please note that if you are more one hour later than the time you have selected for collection then your booking will be automatically cancelled and we cannot guarantee availability.


In addition, if you are collecting or returning an item outside of our opening hours (8.45am - 16.30pm) you must pre book a drop-in locker. Please contact the team for further guidance.

Technical Services team support the Faculty of Health and Education and includes staff and students. We have equipment stored in the Resource Centre for most courses. 

For Speech and Language Therapy Students - You can pre book any resources here on Connect 2. We insist on viewing assessments onsite in the Resource Centre or specialist labs. All toys and games can be taken, once booked and used on placements. You can photocopy, laminate and make resources within the Resource Centre See Links and Help section for support and guidance or email healthandeducationtech@mmu.ac.uk for any queries put in the subject line SLT Query

Should you require toys and games then please pre book where possible so they can be ready for collection. View selection in Book by Category and select Speech and Language Therapy

For Physiotherapy Students- Upper Quadrant, Lower Quadrant and Skulls are now available to book out. Please book in advance and ensure that when booking a set as a group that all ID numbers and names are given.

For booking Physio Practice lab 2.48, contact the Resource Centre team via email above who will arrange this for you. Please provide minimum 24hrs notice to ensure the room is available to use or an alternative can be found.

All Health Students - Nursing/Physiotherapy/Speech & Language Therapy- For your uniform enquiries visit https://asisst.mmu.ac.uk , raise a ticket by going to the Technical Services button, select Uniforms and your relevant course, then complete the correct specific form and submit. For all uniform queries that cannot be resolved via assist then email BrooksUniformsTech@mmu.ac.uk you will still receive a Ticket number and will be responded to.

Recycling Uniforms - All final year students are asked where possible to recycle their uniforms to support future year groups, any unwanted but in good condition uniform can be dropped off at the Resource Centre counter or placed in the dedicated cupboard near to the sink area. Students can request, free of charge recycled uniform. Please note,  limited stock and sizes will be available, contact the team for more details. BrooksUniformsTech@mmu.ac.uk 

Buying Uniforms - We are currently selling uniform for Nursing Only, please email BrooksUniformsTech@mmu.ac.uk where links will be sent out directly so the purchase can be made through the e-store, collection is from Brooks Resource Centre counter. Extra items can be purchased through the supplier directly using course codes for discounted prices. Please speak with the Resource Centre team o the helpline or email as above regarding uniform.

Help

Our Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing Service is available Monday – Friday 11:00am – 4:00pm, except on bank holidays https://www.mmu.ac.uk/student-life/wellbeing/counselling-and-mental-health/

 

You can also access 24/7 virtual mental health and wellbeing support via our Togetherall platform. Togetherall is an online community for people who are stressed, anxious or feeling low. Policies

Brooks Resources Terms and Conditions
The equipment shall at all times remain the property of the University.

Reservations
All reservations must be collected by the person who has made the booking and by 4.00pm at the latest. Any reservations that are made and not collected will be automatically cancelled. If you are unable to collect your reservation but still require the items, please contact the Brooks Resource Store on 0161 247 2544 or email BrooksResourcesTech@mmu.ac.uk to arrange a different time and to avoid lock out penalties on your account.


The Resource Centre cannot be held responsible for equipment being unavailable due to late returns. It is the responsibility of every individual to return equipment on time.

Responsibility of the Borrower
It is the borrower’s responsibility to ensure they have all the items they have requested and to check they are all correct and in good working order before leaving the Resource Centre. Please report any missing items and faults as soon as possible. Borrowers are liable for any loss or damage to equipment, if they have not informed us. Do not leave any equipment unattended, if taking off the premises be aware of high-risk situations such as cars or damp and dusty places. Plan your activity before you take the equipment and create a plan of action to enable you to work safely.

It is the responsibility of the borrower to take care of all equipment throughout the duration of their loan period and to return the equipment in the condition it was received in, on or before the agreed equipment return date.

It is the responsibility of the borrower to consider other users of the equipment and to utilise these useful resources in a respectful manner.

It is the responsibility of the borrower to ensure that Ethical approval is in place for any research related activity the equipment may be used for. This includes consent of participants and data storage requirements. Please refer to the Data Protections Policy below and seek guidance from your line manager or PGR supervisor if necessary.

Returns, Late Items and Extensions
Please return equipment from where you borrowed it. When you have finished with the equipment, please check, pack it away properly, and report any faults or damage.

If you borrow equipment and for reasons beyond your control cannot return it on time, you must contact the Resource Store between the hours of 9.00-16.00pm, please telephone 0161 247 2544 or email BrooksResourcesTech@mmu.ac.uk There are no penalties attached if you have notified us.

Data Protection
When any recording equipment (dictaphone, camcorder etc) is returned, its contents will be immediately deleted, unless otherwise specifed. This is to comply with GPDR regulations. 

Risk Assessments
Dependent on the intended use of equipment borrowed, it may be necessary to conduct a Risk Assessment for an activity. A risk assessment is a careful examination of anything that could cause harm to the borrower or other people. The aim is to make sure no one gets hurt or becomes ill, and that no equipment risks damage or loss.

Risk Assessment guidance for staff is available on the MMU intranet and Risk Assessment guidance for students is available on Moodle.

If there is any doubt as to whether an activity requires a Risk Assessment, the borrower should discuss this with an appropriate line manager or supervisor, or seek guidance from a Technical Officer.

Penalties
If an item is returned late and you have not extended the loan or contacted technical services, then the following penalties apply:

  • LEVEL 1: first time for a late return 3 day lock down on loans
  • LEVEL 2: second time for a late return will incur a 2-week lock down on loans
  • LEVEL 3: third time for a late return will result in complete lock down on future loans and your Tutor informed who will decide on appropriate action
  • LEVEL 4: if a borrower fails to return an item after 30 days, it will be the relevant department’s discretion to raise an invoice from Finance for a replacement.


Exclusion of Liability
By accepting these Terms and Conditions you agree that Manchester Metropolitan University will not be liable for any personal loss or damage incurred by you arising in connection with your use of the loaned Equipment.

You also agree that when borrowing licensed publications that you will not photocopy materials unless otherwise stated or use equipment for your own gain outside of study hours and the University shall be held harmless by the borrower against potential claim. Nothing in this agreement shall exclude or in any way limit either party’s liability for death or personal injury caused by its own negligence.
